Kasargod, Jun 1: Separate incidents of sons killing mothers has been reported here in the district. If alcohol was the reason for the first murder, mental derangement was the reason for the other.

In an incident held at Koliyar Colony of Tayannur under Ambalattara police station limits on Monday May 30, Kunhikannan's wife Narayani (48) was murdered by Kunhikrishnan (22) by hitting her head with a stone, it is alleged. It is learnt that both mother and son had consumed alcohol together in the night and when son asked for more mother refused to let him consume more. This ensued in war of words and the enraged son allegedly murdered his mother, informed the police.

Police have taken Kunnikrishnan into custody and are interrogating him.

Meanwhile, at Shantipalla of Peradala in Badiyadka here Kamala (55), wife of Rama Naika has been murdered. It is learnt that mentally deranged son of Kamala, venkappa Naika, a autorickshaw driver is the murderer.

It is reported that on Tuesday May 31 afternoon Venkappa had an argument with his mother and hurled stone at her. Further, he crushed her head under a boulder as she laid unconscious and also burnt her pouring kerosene. It is also gathered that he was not driving autorickshaw from past one week owing to mental derangement.

Its really sad to have some one killed at home and then to have a kin with mental illness who is responsible for it. Yeah...I dont know what you mean by mental derangement...Its mental illness/disorder.I will be interested in knowing what happened those guys who killed their own mother? I know you have used the word 'murder'but legally you are not supposed to call the alleged person a murderer unless and otherwise proved in the court. Section 335 of the Criminal Procedure Code confirms that Persons who have committed crimes due to mental illness are not guilty because of their mental illness, hence they are not given punishment but are acquitted and admitted to a psychiatric hospital for treatment (guilty but insane.)I am wondering if there are any separate forensic hospitals to treat such people? or is it just the prison they go to? The mental health act 1987 and the amendments made to it in 2010 recommends admission to psychiatric hospital. There are hundreds of such untreated cases of mental illness which can be dangerous if mixed with drugs and alcohol.
