Udupi, May 27: The Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy will organize a two-day state-level Konkani women’s literary and cultural fest here on Saturday May 28 and Sunday May 29.
Addressing media persons here on Thursday, Academy president Narayan Kharvi Kundapur said that various aspects of Konkani culture such as Konkani folk songs, Konkani drama, music, catholic Konkani variety programme, poets’ session, and Konkani dance will be showcased during the fest. A Konkani women’s seminar will also be held during the fest.
The topics to be discussed at the seminar are role of women in development of Konkani language, role of women in development of Konkani art and literature, the impact of e-media on women and children, working women and family life, and the impact of modern education on Konkani folk and cultural tradition.
Eminent Konkani women who have contributed to the field of Konkani literature and culture will be felicitated on the occasion. They are Usha Nayak Karkala (theatre), Sandhya K Kurdekar Sirsi (organization), Joyce Ozario Mangalore (music), Vatsala Nayak Puttur (folk art), Kumuda Gadkar Karwar (devotional music), Rukmini Maroor Kundapur (literature), and Jamuna Nagappa Mesta Karki Honnavar (folk singing).
Swami Lakshivarateerta of Shiroor Mutt will inaugurate the fest on Saturday morning.
State minister for higher education Dr V S Acharya and Udyavar St Francis Xavier parish priest Fr William Martis will be the chief guests on the occasion.
Academy registrar H S Shivarudrappa and member–convener Pundalik Maratha were present at the press conference.
