Beltangady, May 26: Karnataka Chief Minister, B S Yeddyurappa, informed that the state government had already released a sum of two crore rupees towards the construction of a travellers lodge in Venoor named Gomateshwara Yatri Nivas. He promised to set aside further grants for permanent drinking water scheme and other development works required for the town, in his next budget.
He was speaking after paying obeisance to Gomateshwara statue in Venoor and offering special puja, and after laying the foundation stone for Gomateshwara Yatri Nivas.
“I have asked the district deputy commissioner to send an exhaustive estimate towards execution of a permanent drinking water project here including building of a dam across River Phalguni for the purpose, development of roads, conservation of Gomateshwara statue and hillock, construction of permanent platform for ceremonial ablution (Mahamastakabhisheka) of Bahubali in 2012 etc, within the next three weeks. Once they are received, steps will be taken to sanction the projects and initiate them within one year from now,” he announced.
The Chief Minister also felicitated special representative of Karnataka government in New Delhi, V Dhananjay Kumar and his wife, on the occasion of Kumar’s 60th birthday celebrations. He noted that both Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts have some mature and experienced politicians, and that he would like these districts to grow into model districts.
In his address, Dhananjay Kumar said he finds no fault in the CM’s largesse towards health, education, and religious centres which have been feeding the community members. He thanked Yeddyurappa for releasing Rs 400 crore towards minority development and Rs 40 crore towards the development of Christians for the first time in the history of the state. He also handed over a memorandum listing out demands for various schemes required to be executed in Venoor.
Swastisri Bhattaraka Charukeerti Panditacharyavarya Swamiji of Moodbidri Jain Mutt honoured the Chief Minister on the occasion. Dr Padmaprasad Ajila, belonging to the lineage of Aladangadi rulers delivered felicitation address, listing out achievements of Dhananjay Kumar. MP, D V Sadanand Gowda, deputy speaker of the state assembly, Yogish Bhat, MLC, Ganesh Karnik, A G Kodgi, and district deputy commissioner, Channappa Gowda, were present.
