Mangalore, May 26: Dakshina Kannada deputy director of public instruction, Chame Gowda, has informed that the schools in the district will reopen after summer vacation, on May 30. For teachers, however, the reopening day will be May 27, as school cleaning work has be attended on May 27 and 28. “Most of the books and uniforms needed have already been delivered to schools. These will be distributed to the children on the reopening day,” he explained.
He said that the students studying up to the eighth standard used to get free text books till now. As the government has decided to extend this scheme to students of even ninth and tenth standards, the students of government and aided schools need not buy their text books. However, students of unaided schools will have o buy them on their own. Moreover, students of eighth and ninth standards will also get bicycles this year, he stated.
It is learnt that schools in Udupi district will also reopen on May 30, and other routines will be as applicable to Dakshina Kannada district schools.
In a release, Mangalore University said that the degree classes for the year 2011-12 will begin on June 13 instead of June 1, as various degree examinations and valuation work are in progress in different colleges.
