Mangalore: Infosys Corporate Cricket Tourney - Host Emerges Victorious

Mangalore, May 24: Mangalore office of Infosys Technologies had organized a cricket tournament for corporate companies functioning in Dakshina Kannada district recently and emerged victorious as well. The tournament was held between April 30 and May 22 this year at Nethra District Centre of Infosys at Mudipu near here.

In all, seven corporates, New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL), Mangalore Electricity Supply Company Ltd (MESCOM), Mangalore Chemicals and Fertilizers (MCF), Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL), Manipal Group, and host team, Infosys Technologies, took part in the tournament.

These teams were divided into two groups in a round-robin format, followed by semi-finals and the final. NMPT, MRPL, Manipal Group, and Infosys entered the semi-finals. Manipal Group registered a win against NMPT by 148 runs in the semi-finals, whereas Infosys subdued MRPL in a low-scoring thriller by five runs.

The final was held on Sunday May 22 between Manipal Group and Infosys. Infosys emerged victorious by six wickets. Man of the Match award was won by Leslie Daniel Raj (Infosys) for his unbeaten 56. Cash prize of Rs 21,000 with the winner’s cup, and Rs. 14,000 with runners-up cup, were handed over by Mangalore Infosys DC head, Gopi K K, to the captains of Infosys and Manipal Group respectively.

The following were the recipients of other awards:

Best Batsman – Leslie Daniel Raj (Infosys).
Best Bowler -- Devesh Kumar (Infosys).
Best All-rounder – Rahul Kotian (Manipal Group).
