Karwar, May 24 (PTI) All the four nuclear power reactors at the Kaiga Generation Station are working satisfactorily and operating as per stringent safety standards, its director J P Gupta said.
"KGS has four pressurised Heavy Water Reactors of 220 MWe each. All four units are operati+ng satisfactorily and generating about 700 MWe and supplying power to southern grid," he told reporters here.
Terming the 'smoke incident' in the third reactor resulting in its shutting down for a brief period last month as a "small incident", Gupta said, "Such incidents are not reported, remedial measures are taken, it is repaired. Small incidents sometimes create panic."
Kaiga Generation Station is designed and operates according to stringent safety standards, he said.
The average radiation dose at 'KGS fence' in the last ten years of operation was only two micro sievert per year, which is less than 0.
