Mangaluru, Dec 18: The railway police arrested a man accused of stealing gold ornaments from a person who had slept on a platform of the city railway station.
Firoz Padavat (38), a native of Calicut in Kerala state, is the accused who is arrested. The police confiscated gold ornaments worth Rs 2,37,600 from him.
A man, who had slept on the platform was wearing a gold chain and bracelet both weighing 24 grams each. The same was stolen by the accused. A complaint was filed by the person with railway police.
Railway police inspector Mohan Kottari had formed a special crime detection squad under the guidance of Railway police SP Dr Sowmyalatha S K and ASP Geetha C R.
The accused was apprehended from the train that was plying between Kannur and Mangaluru on December 16. He was produced before the court which remanded him to judicial custody.
