Bangalore: 17-year-old Boy Kidnapped, Rescued within Hours

BANGALORE, May 23 (TNN): High drama marked the kidnap and rescue of a teenager in Parappana Agrahara police limits on Sunday evening. Akshay, 17, a second PU student, was walking near his house when a five-member gang dragged him into a jeep and drove away.

On hearing about Akshay's kidnap, his parents approached police, and a special team was formed to locate and rescue the boy. Bangalore Southeast police eventually managed to nab the kidnappers.

Police, who are interrogating the accused, refused to give out details of the kidnappers. DCP (Southeast) P S Harsha said police are yet to find out if the kidnappers had any connection with the family. Details would be revealed only on Monday, he added.

DCP Harsha said news of the kidnap was flashed across the police network, and all exits blocked. "We had our men posted at all the points and all vehicles going through them were checked," said DCP Harsha.

Soon, one of the search teams found a vehicle moving suspiciously at one of the checkpoints. When policemen approached the vehicle, the inmates tried to escape. Police gave chase and were able to nab the gang and rescue Akshay.

More details are expected to be revealed by the police commissioner at a press conference on Monday.
