Mangalore, May 23: For settling cases coming under various statutes including Hindu Marriage Act swiftly, the need for setting up of more and more family courts has become imperative. Disputes within families need to be addressed faster, to make them more effective. At present, in most of the district headquarters, these cases languish in district courts, which are burdened with large number of cases. As a result these cases do not get priority in hearing and early settlement.

On Monday May 23, the city gets a new family court. 24 employees have been appointed for this court, and the family disputes pending in civil courts will get transferred to this new court in course of time.

As per an estimate, about a thousand cases are pending in the district court here alone, relating to family disputes. They relate to divorce, reestablishment of marriages, alimony, domestic violence against women, atrocities, complaints relating to marriage, rights over children etc. A large number of such cases are pending settlement in senior civil court and JMFC courts.

The main purpose of establishment of this court is speedy delivery of justice. If family-related issues drag for long in courts, they affect the future of the parties concerned. Pooling all these cases together at one place enables the concerned to concentrate on them and pass orders faster. At the same time, there is a need to provide enough judges for this court, taking into consideration the number of pending cases and the need to settle them at the earliest
