The drunkard, who found the money bag, works in a bus. He said, “A box containing currency notes was lying near Pumpwell bus stand. I have not counted the amount. It must be around Rs five to 10 lac. I took two currency notes of Rs 500 face value. I had liquor along with one more stranger with that money. I gave one bundle of currency note to that unknown person.
“I have told the police that this money was not stolen but found on road. If any contact number was there in the box, I would have returned the money. I do not want this kind of money at all. I would not have taken it to home also. I work in a bus. That is enough for me,” he said.
Defending that the amount available is only Rs 49,000, Kankanady police station personnel said, “According to the claim made by the person who had the money in his possession, the box did not contain Rs ten lac. We have counted the money in the presence of public. We also have video recording of the same. The box had only Rs 49,000 in it. The person who had the money in his possession said that he got the same in the bus stand. Information will be given to the court about the matter and cash and further process will be done as per court’s order.”
