Puttur, May 20: As requested by the policemen, the court here had remanded Dr K V Renuka Prasad, who has been accused of masterminding the murder of KVG Medical College administrative officer (AO), A S Ramakrishna, to police custody to enable them to interrogate him. Assistant superintendent of police, Dr Rohini Katoch, who is the investigating officer of the case, has encountered another problem in taking him into custody.
Dr Prasad, who was admitted into the hospital at the time his judicial custody was sanctioned, was released from the district Wenlock Hospital Mangalore on May 17. The court had permitted the police to take him into custody for two days from May 19. But, Dr Prasad, in the meantime, got admitted into Wenlock Hospital again on May 18, saying that he was unwell, although the doctors had discharged him the previous day, finding him to be in good health.
As Dr Prasad got admitted into the hospital again, he could not be presented in the court at the time the petition of the police for his custody came up for hearing in the local court. As the period of custody permitted by the court will end today, the police department will have to prepare another application to secure his custody, after he is discharged from the hospital. It is learnt that the police personnel are considering the legal complications involved, as well as the options before them, in view of changed circumstances caused by the re-admission of the accused into the hospital, in consultation with senior officials and legal advisors.
