Kundapur, May 20: Preetesh (18), son of Shashikant Rao from Balkur, who was studying in the first year degree course at the government degree college at Koteshwar near here, and Prajwal Shetty (18), first year pre university student of Sharada College Basrur, drowned in Jambu rivulet at Guttikere in Balkur village in the taluk on Thursday May 19.
They were close friends. As the colleges are closed for summer vacation, they decided to beat the heat by swimming in Jambu rivulet. They left their mobile phones and clothes on the shores of the rivulet before venturing into the rivulet. Their families, worried over the fact that they did not return home till late afternoon, started searching for them after calls to their mobile phones remained unanswered. A large scale operation to search for their bodies was launched, after their clothes and mobile phones were found on the bank of the rivulet.
Villagers, firemen, and policemen together got involved with the search operation. By late evening, the body of Prajwal was found, while search for Preetesh’s body is on. Prajwal is survived by parents and an elder brother. Preetesh has left behind his parents and a younger brother.
