Mangalore, May 19: The send off programme scheduled for the outgoing deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district, Subodh Yadav, stands postponed. Yadav was abruptly transferred as textile commissioner, Bangalore, within seven months of his taking over charge as the deputy commissioner of the district. There have been speculations that the lobby of sand miners had worked to shift him from the district.
His farewell function was to be held in the city on Wednesday May 18. The new deputy commissioner has already taken over charge, and Yadav, who was on leave, had arrived in the city on Tuesday. On Wednesday morning, the fact that his send off function had been postponed was conveyed. No fresh date has as yet been announced, and no reasons were assigned to the sudden decision to put off the function.
It is as yet unclear as to whether the state government has undergone a change of heart relating to his transfer. Yadav’s functioning had drawn appreciation from the people, while his strict implementation of rules and procedures had bothered government employees, sand mining lobby, etc. Yadav had, during his stint as the chief executive officer of Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat too, was appreciated for his sincerity and people-friendly approach.
