Bangalore, May 19: Former union minister, B Janardhan Poojary, said that the Almighty has created opportunities to throw out the corrupt and wayward Yeddyurappa-led BJP government in the state. “No amount of efforts would be able to save this government from imminent doom,” he predicted.
“If a state government is dismissed, and President’s rule is imposed, this needs to be approved by both the houses of the parliament within two months. However, UPA does not have a clear majority in the Rajya Sabha. Therefore, the union government is making efforts to draw support from parties which support its line of thinking, for this move. The state government is sure to make exit from power,” he said, addressing a press conference here on Wednesday May 18.
He felt that the state Governor has taken a right step, which he asserted, is as per the constitutional provisions. “Soli Sorabjee, who normally appears on behalf of the BJP leaders, naturally has taken the side of the state government. The recommendation made by the Governor has nothing to do with the strength of the government in the assembly. The Governor’s recommendation was based on corrupt administration and collapse of constitutional system in the state,” he explained.
Poojary said that the Governor had listed all the wrongdoings of the government in its three-year rule, and clarified that article 356, which empowers the central government to impose president’s rule in the state, has no stipulation that such government should be in minority. The Governor and the union government had given three chances to the state government to mend ways. This time there is no chance of its survival, he felt.
Poojary said that he does not mind the continuance of the BJP in power in the state, if it is prepared to remove Chief Minister, B S Yeddyurappa, and assembly speaker, K G Bopaiah, from their respective posts.
