Bangalore, May 18: State minister for higher education, Dr V S Acharya, said that the government has dropped the idea of promulgating an ordinance to make all the professional educational institutions to fall in line with the fee structure proposed by the government. and agreed by them in the past. “Instead, amendments to the Karnataka Professional Educational Institutions Act will be brought about in the coming assembly session,” he clarified.

Acharya said that the decision to scrap the plan of issuing the ordinance was taken in view of the fact that the legislature session is scheduled to begin on June 2. “We had asked the governing councils of the professional educational institutions as to whether they are committed to abide by the earlier agreement on fee charged to the students, and asking them as to whether prefer adoption of the report of Justice Padmaraj Committee. They were given 15 days time, which will expire in two to three days. Most of the governing councils have said they would abide by the earlier agreement. The Justice Padmaraj Commission’s report is before the court for consideration. If any of the governing councils refuse to abide by the earlier agreement, we will implement the fee structure as recommended by the committee. We have not yet opened this report, to ensure that we are not accused of making amendments to the recommendations,” he clarified.
