Kasargod, May 17: Some locals, who stopped a gang of four menacing-looking persons who arrived in a car at Perla in the district town on Sunday May 15, handed them over to the policemen. The gang looked like it was out to create trouble.
There are rumours that the gang was hired to kill a political leader. The gang is suspected to be on the trail of Emnakaje gram panchayat president, Somashekhar, and his brother. The incident, which occurred in the backdrop of the vitiating atmosphere in the district because of worsening enmity between the United and Left fronts, and coming in the heels of the announcement of the assembly election results, has created a sense of fear among the residents.
Additional police personnel were deployed in Perla town to avert untoward incidents resulting from the heightened tensions. After the murder of youth Congress activist, Abdul Jabbar in Perla because of political enmity in November 2009, has given rise to frequent frictions between these two political groups. In this case, CPM leaders have been named as accused, and CBI has taken up investigation.
District superintendent of police, Sanjay Kumar, deputy superintendent of police, Vikram, and other senior police officials visited the spot and collected information. They have ordered for the closure of shops and establishments in Perla by 7 pm every day.
