Bantwal: Rain, Strong Wind, Leave a Trail of Destruction

Bantwal, May 17: A number of houses, cattle sheds and plantations in Bolantoor Kalyaru region of Narikombu village in the taluk suffered losses running into lacs of rupees due to rain and strong wind that swept through these regions on the evening of Sunday May 15. 

Over 15 houses owned by Raghunath Bhandary, Krishnappa Poojary, Mohan Bhandary, Timmappa Kulal and others in Bolantoor Kalyaru suffered partial damages. Some cattle sheds and pump sheds also were damaged. Plantations of a few people suffered on account of fallen trees. The revenue department also has received report of about 18 houses and cattle sheds in villages around the town having been damaged.

Coastal Development Authority chairman, B Nagaraj Shetty, visited the affected villages on Monday and instructed tahsildar, Ravichandra Nayak, to ensure that the affected people get compensation for the losses at the earliest.

Mescom also has suffered heavy losses by way of uprooted electric poles and severed power connections. Electric cables were damaged due to fallen trees in the town, in addition to Panemangalore, Shambhoor, Goodinabali etc.

In Sullia, a house owned by Medappa in Uluvaru was damaged after a tree fell on it. Loss in this incident has been put at around Rs 50,000. The house of Renkil Motte Gopalakrishna in Chembu village also suffered extensively because of an uprooted tree.

A number of places in Kundapur taluk received light showers on Monday evening, while cloudy weather was experienced in other places.
