Bantwal, May 16: The language is not only restricted to a community. It’s the medium of expression, while the sustenance of languages that are threatened of extinction will prevail if people develop the likeness to the beauty of language, said MLA B Ramanath Rai.
MLA Ramanath Rai was delivering the presidential address at the concluding ceremony of Beary Sahitya Samskrutika Sondola, organized by Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy at Srinivas auditorium, BC Road, here on Sunday May 15.
Beary language has splendour of culture and the public should be educated in this regard, said MLA Rai. Meanwhile, he called on the organizations to collaborate with the Academy in protecting the nation and its diverse languages.
MLA Rai began his speech in Beary language and continued as far as he could, and later changed over to Kannada. But his proficiency was acknowledged by the gathering with thundering applause.
In his chief guest's address, Rani Abbakka Tulu Study Centre president Prof Tukaram Poojary said that it’s unfortunate that unhealthy developments on languages and religions are happening in coastal district as a few politicians and religious leaders are working towards the malicious intent.
Town councillor B Dinesh Bhandary released ‘Bilkiri’ special issue of Beary quarterly bulletin on the occasion.
Bantwal Beary Sahitya Parishat president Abbas Ali Bolantoor, academy president M B Abdul Rehman, registrar Ummarabba and member P Mohammed were present.
MLA Ramanath Rai felicitated Beary movement veteran P A Rahim and social activist G M Mohammed Master during the programme.
Mangalore Sadh Educational and Charitable Trust president Abdul Khader Denjipady inaugurated the Beary Sahitya Sandola on Sunday morning. Beary Sahitya Academy president M B Abdul Rehman presided over the programme. Town council member Gopal Suvarna was the chief guest.
Various competitions, women’s seminar, Mehandi competition and multi-lingual poets’ session were held at the sandola.
Melkar Pre-University College lecturer Savarina, Madikeri Kadagatal Government High School teacher Rasheeda Banu spoke on Beary women in education sphere after the inaugural programme.
Multi-lingual poets, M P Basheer Ahmed, Basheer Kinya, Chandrashekar Pathoor, Deepika Vittal, Yashwant D S and Sultan Goodinabali recited their poetry at the poets' session that was presided over by Ibrahim Tannirbavi.
Abdul Razak, Anantady Iqbal Master, B M Thumbe, Abdul Hameed Goltamajalu, Abdul Karim, Farouq Goodinabali, Suleiman Soorikumeru and others compered the day-long programme.
