Mangalore, May 14: A second year MBBS student of Kasturba Medical College in the city lost his life in an accident that occurred around midnight on Thursday May 13. Rupesh Goel (20), a native of New Delhi, who was riding in the pillion of a newly purchased motor bike, died after the two wheeler plunged into a roadside pit near Kuloor Bridge in the city.
Mayank Rastogi (20), another student, who was riding the bike, survived with critical injuries. He has been hospitalized.
These two students, who stayed at the college hostel, had visited Tannirbavi Beach near Panambur on Thursday night. It is learnt that Rastogi, who was riding the bike, lost control over the vehicle while approaching Kuloor Bridge junction. The bike then deviated from the road, and fell into a pit at the spot where the protective wall of the bridge has crumbled.
Both the students had been critically injured in the accident. Rastogi lost his life before he could be treated. Mayank had informed about the accident to other students when the students at the hostel had called him over phone.
A case has been registered in Panambur police station.
