Mangalore, May 13: The residents of Shivbagh, ward no 34, confronted local corporator Gretta Rebello here on Friday May 13 demanding better quality roads in the area.
The protesters said that their repeated wait for a good road is yet to be fulfilled. In the previous demonstration staged in front of the MCC on March 21, the civic body had assured of carrying out asphalting and other works, but even after almost two months of waiting, there is no sign of any attempt to begin the works, they said.
The protesters noted that the apathy of the authorities concerned also paved the way for many accidents. Apart from poor roads, problems of water drains, footpaths, sewage and water supply line have also irked them. The protesters complained that the corporation had filled potholes with soil some months ago resulting in dust.
When daijiworld contacted Gretta Rebello, she said that though the tender was called to initiate the repair work, no contractors had come forward to take up the work. But she assured that at least patch work will be initiated on May 18 with the available workers and after the monsoon the road will be asphalted and other issues will also be addressed.
