Mangalore: Maid Who Decamped with Jewellery Caught

Mangalore, May 11: Mamata T from Kumsi in Shimoga district, who had fled after stealing gold ornaments and cash from the house of her master, Madhavaraya Pai M from Kodialbail in the city, has been arrested by the police of Barke station here. They have also recovered gold ornaments worth Rs 6.28 lac, a mobile phone, and cash amounting to Rs 10,528 she had stolen from Pai’s home.

Mamata had been recently hired by Madhavaraya Pai to take care of his aged mother, Srimati Pai. On May 4, Mamata went away from the house in the guise of meeting a friend nearby, never to return. Later, the house owners found that gold, diamond, platinum and silver ornaments worth Rs 6.28 lac stored in a cupboard had gone missing, apart from Rs 15,000 in cash. A complaint was registered in Barke police station.

The police, who took up investigation, came to know that the maid, after leaving Mangalore, had started staying in a lodge in Shimoga. They went there and took her into custody.
