Udupi, Oct 31: The Department of Respiratory Therapy of Manipal College of Health Professions (MCHP), a constituent of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) conducted “World Respiratory Care Week” between 13 and 22 October in Manipal.
The inaugural ceremony was held on October 21 during which a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was exchanged between MCHP, MAHE and Indian Association of Respiratory Care (IARC) to enhance academics and research. The ceremony had the presence of Dr Narayana Sabhahit, registrar, MAHE, Manipal as chief guest, Dr Jerry Paul, professor of Anaesthesiology, AIMS Kochin and president of Indian Association of Respiratory Care as guest of honour, Dr G Arun Maiya, dean of MCHP, MAHE, Manipal, Pratibha Todur, Incharge HoD, Department of Respiratory Therapy, MCHP, MAHE, Manipal and Samruddha, assistant professor as organising secretary of the event, Department of Respiratory Therapy, MCHP, MAHE, Manipal.
During the week, department also conducted CME and workshop “RESPICARE 2022”- on the theme “Essential skills for respiratory therapist in critical care.” About 200 delegates attended the event from Manipal and Mangaluru regions. The department also held its first alumni meet in the campus on October 22.
Speaking about the event Dr G Arun Maiya, dean of Manipal College of Health Professions, MAHE said, “With the signing of the MoU, the World Respiratory Care Week celebrations this year marked the beginning of an important collaboration between Manipal College of Health Professions, MAHE and the Indian Association of Respiratory Care (IARC). We are confident that this partnership will help in enhancing both academic opportunities and research for students and professionals in the field of respiratory care. We were delighted to see the enthusiastic participation in the RESPICARE 2022 workshop and the vigour with which the students showcased their talents in various competitions held during the week.”
The entire week’s celebrations included various competitions like painting, collage making, poster presentation, cartooning competition, installation of 3D model, reels competition, Quiz, Cultural events such as dance, songs, music, MIME etc for the students of Respiratory Therapy.
The week ended with the valedictory function held on October 22 where the students were rewarded with prizes and certificates for the showcase of their talents.
