Udupi: 102-yr-old Veteran of Kemmannu Ibrahim Saheb Passes Away

Udupi, May 8: One of the most senior member among the Kemmannu Community Ibrahim Saheb (102), Thimmankudru breathed his last here at his residence on May 4. He was the son of Hussain Saheb, a landlord at Kemmannu.

He is survived by seven children, five girls and two boys. His contribution to Kemmannu especially to the residents of Thimmankudru is worth a mention.
 
Ibrahim Saheb born in the year 1909, started his career in a plastic company in Mumbai. He later came back to Kemmannu in 1954-55 and worked as a compounder in the clinic of Dr Ismail Saheb, his cousin. Later he got himself registered as a medical practitioner and served as a Doctor of Indian medicine from his residence. Later he also put up a soda bottling shop in Kemmannu for a brief period and was down around 1965. He later set up a flour mill, which gained him popularity. He served as a Beedi Agent in his later days.
 
His major achievement and contribution to the society was when he served as the president of Hanging Bridge construction Committee. He took up the whole responsibility proactively and made sure that the bridge saw successful completion. "The people of Thimannakudru will never forget his contribution, I still remember a year back ( at the age of 101) he was still seen riding his old bicycle on the roads of Kemmannu," said Abdul from Thimmankudru to whom Ibrahim Sahib’s death came as a shock since he met him a day back.
 
Besides this he has also served as the president of Thimmannkudru Masjid and as an elected member of Thonse Grama Panchayat. The entire Kemmannu community expresses its heartfelt sympathies to his family and prays that his soul rests in peace
