Mangaluru, Oct 18: The Milagres College placement cell in association with IQAC, PTA and Alumni (MICAA) had organised a mega job fair 'Career Connect-2022' for the third time on Tuesday, October 18 from 9 AM to 3.30 PM.
Chief executive of Spectrum Industries and former chairman of Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) Jeevan Saldanha along with other dignitaries inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp.
Speaking on the occasion, Jeevan Saldanha said, "Unemployment is on the rise. The Covid pandemic hit the world economy hard. The economy was already weak and there was a downturn prior to Covid. Unemployment was rising, spending was coming down and demand was shrinking and the trend was weak. Especially food processing industries were badly hit."
"As the economy struggled to recover from this, the Russian-Ukraine war was another great setback. These two factors combined are expected to push the global economy into recession next year. The IMF has cut its global growth forecast for 2023 as economic pressures from the war in Ukraine have created high energy and food prices, and sharp higher interest rates," he added.
He also said that the qualities and soft skills that employers look for in an employee are communication, reliability, organisation skills, passion, leadership, initiative, teamwork, creativity, and digital literacy.
He also advised the job aspirants on how to develop skills for their profession.
Correspondent of the college, Fr Bonaventure Nazareth also spoke on the occasion.
Principal Fr Michael Santhumayor welcomed the dignitaries who were honored during the occasion.
PTA president Pasty Vas, MICAA president Riana D'Cunha and other dignitaries were present.
Placement coordinator officer Athira proposed a vote of thanks.
Over 3000 job aspirants and 64 companies took part in the job fair.
