Mangalore, May 2: The members of various physiotherapy associations in the state submitted a memorandum to Governor Hans Raj Bharadwaj requesting his help in the formation of Physiotherapy Council in the state.  

 
The role of Physiotherapists in the delivery of health services including investigations, treatment and prevention of diseases by virtue of specials skills is paramount and they are most critical manpower for providing preventive and curative services.

States like Maharashtra, Delhi, and Gujarat already have an independent Physiotherapy State Council by which the physiotherapists of these states are highly benefitted. Hence the formation of Council in the state level will create government posts for under-graduate and post-graduate physiotherapists in hospitals in state, stated the memorandum submitted to the Governor under the leadership of Professor U T Ifthikar Fareed, convenor, Indian Association of Physiotherapists and president, Sports and Fitness Training Federation of India.

The members of the association met Sushma Swaraj, opposition leader of paliament for seperate central physio therapy council and she assured to support the bill in the parliament. Dr V S Acharya , higher education minister has promised to initiate the council bill after discussing with other officials and formulate it according to other state councils.

The governor has also assured that he will direct the state medical education minister to initiate the process.Dr Veerappa Moily appealed   for the central council for the physiotherapists. He has agreed to put forward the bill in the parliament and extend his utmost support and help.

The members have also requested Dr B S Yeddyurappa  for the separate state council. The CM assured that he will discuss it with state medical officials and the council will be formed soon.
