Mangalore: Haunted by Health Problem, Woman Immolates Herself

Mangalore, Apr 29: A city resident committed suicide on Thursday April 28 by pouring kerosene on herself and then igniting fire. She has been identified as Surekha (20), daughter of Eshwarappa, a resident of Eshwari Apartments in Ballalbagh in the city.

Reportedly, Surekha was alone in her room when she soaked herself with kerosene. After she set herself on fire, the family members, who got alerted, doused the flames and took Surekha, who had sustained serious burn injuries, to Wenlock Hospital. She did not respond to treatments and breathed her last some time later, it is gathered.

Surekha, working as tailor, had not been working since the last two days. In a complaint filed in Barke police station here, her family members said they suspect that Surekha chose to kill herself, frustrated over repeated epileptic seizures she used to suffer from since long.
