Chikmagalur, Apr 28: Two among the pilgrims who visited temple town Sringeri met watery grave on the evening of Tuesday April 26. Venkataramana (50), living in Ramamurtynagar Bangalore, and his nephew, R Chetan (20), working for The New Indian Express and resident of Kundalahalli, lost their lives.

22 relatives had come together on a pilgrimage to Sringeri. After parking their vehicle in Gandhi Maidan, they had gone to Tunga River. Chetan, while walking along the banks of the river, slipped and fell into the river. Venkataramana, who saw Chetan falling down, tried to save him. Both of them did not know how to swim. Chetan’s body was found with his spectacles in his hand. Venkataramana drowned in front of the eyes of his wife and two daughters.

The fire brigade personnel tried hard to locate the bodies, but failed. Local divers, Satyanarayan, Durga, and Manja, later strived hard and found the bodies.

The policemen, who registered a case, arranged for the post mortem of the bodies.
