Mangalore, Apr 26: "Citizens are in a dilemma due to the implementation of unscientific Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP). They are unable to construct houses in city corporation limits. Though district in-charge minister Krishna J Palemar had assured of amendments to the CDP, people have been in confusion for eight months as the assurance did not convert into action," said former MLA Vijay Kumar Shetty, addressing press persons on Tuesday April 26.
The mayor had announced on March 31 that property taxes were up by 15 percent with effect from April 1. "We condemn this act," Shetty said at the press meet.
He added that all corporators will hold protest in front of the DC’s office on May 12. He sought support from merchant unions, hotel owners and shop owners among others. He also condemned the act of MCC commissioner Dr Vijay Prakash for not stopping the move on CDP and the hike in property taxes by the ruling party. He alleged that the commissioner was acting as a puppet of BJP leaders.
Opposition leader in the city corporation council, Lancelot Pinto alleged that solid waste management has not yet been started in MCC limits, but money has already been collected from the month of April.
Former mayor Shashidhar Hegde said that the new CDP law has been passed without discussiong it at the council meeting.
