Rejuvenate yourself through Ayurveda

‘Your health’ is ‘Your Life’

Stop for a moment and ask yourself, "What is the life really about?" Is it about your job, your wife and children, the family, your assets, your bank balance, investment and unlimited escapades and relationships?

No. These are just the frills of life. The only that should matter to you is - your health, what's throbbing inside you - the essence of healthy life itself.

All the other things we pursue, say the education, career development, relationships, and wealth are just accessories that we hope will enhance our life, no doubt. But not in the absence of a good and robust health.

In today's mechanical world we see ourselves entangled with the accessories and lose sight of the most fundamental thing - the essence of our existence, our life. Not just life, but a healthy life. There is a long way before we reach unto love, relationship, wealth, a great job, etc. Also, there are other possibilities if we are in good health - devotion, spirituality, eternal happiness, etc.

Do you think any of us would like to be sick or immobile and then to treat oneself. How about treating ourself even before falling sick? Have we heard about preventive measures that saves us from falling sick?

In my opinion, Ayurveda which is in existence since the Vedic times has the answer. Have you heard of a saying called - being lucky is being healthy or whatever way you may twist it. Being healthy is the crux anyway. So stop chasing meaningless things and pay attention to what truly matters.

The Ayurveda - The power in our hands

Ayurveda is an ancient Indian system of holistic medicine that aims to achieve balance in the body, mind, and spirit through natural remedies and lifestyle adjustments to promote overall well-being and prevent illness. “Ayur" means life and "Veda" means knowledge or science, so Ayurveda translates to "science of life".

Kesavatheeram Ayurveda Hospital

KAH is located in Puracheri, a hill-top village near Ezhilode, Kannur district, in God's own country, Kerala, is a medical hamlet established in 1986 to train/treat the normal/sick people in the Ayurvedic way of life.

Types of training/treatment

At Kesavatheeram Ayurveda Hospital the training and treatment is carefully crafted with a unique blend of traditional Ayurvedic practices and modern personalized care. Every individual is unique and therefore their health concerns also differ. With this in mind, the training/treatment is personalized to cater to the specific needs and requirements. The skilled team of experts in this field use their extensive knowledge and expertise in Ayurveda to help to achieve optimal health and wellbeing. By utilizing the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda, the mind, body, and soul are trained. The goal is to provide with holistic and sustainable solutions to a variety of health concerns. So, in essence every person is guided towards a healthier, happier, and wholesome life. I am sure we believe in preventive measures available before falling sick. Ideally, we should treat ourself for 'good health' once a year and must make it as a normal 'Health Tourism.' Preventive healthcare is not just a medical necessity but a social and economic imperative for India. By shifting the focus from treatment to prevention, the country can alleviate the burden of diseases, reduce healthcare costs, and improve overall quality of life. The time to act is now—so that we can start with a 'Healthier India'. Also, it can be ‘a change in one’s daily routine and a holiday option'.

As the hospital is located on a hill-top, the inmates are exposed to a scenic valley, which is full of greenery, with many rivers/rivulets and temples nearby. There is also a Christian Church nearby, dedicated to St Anthony.

Homemade food that suits the changed lifestyle

The inmates surely will enjoy the vegetarian food prepared from the vegetables and fruits grown in the local garden. On a Sunday, after the usual procedure the inmates may prefer to drive down to the nearby non-vegetarian restaurant.

Claims under Insurance policy

While the hospital can certify one’s medical treatment with them, the inmate has to collect all the documents concerning the treatment at the centre for a reimbursement.

How expensive is the stay and treatment

There are three options available - the rates range from Rs 850 per day for two persons to stay together to Rs 2800 (either a/c or non a/c). There is a cottage facility with separate treatment room, wash rooms, intercom facility and a spa for your personal comfort.

You will have access to a canteen for food on prepaid vouchers basis. Free laundry, and a library where the books in different Indian languages are available. The children can enjoy the play area.

The cost of medicine depends on the type of treatment that starts from Rs 1000 per day at the hospital which is explained on the first day.

Travel Tips

If travelling by road from the Mangaluru city, you will reach in 3 hours after passing through Kasargod and Kanhangad. You may also travel by train (Payyanur is the nearest railway station) or by flight off Kannur International Airport.

Medical Team

Founded by the local philanthropist Shri Vishnu Namboodripad in the year 1986, the hospital's medical team is led by his son, Dr Kesavan Vediramana, BAMS, MD (Ayur) as Chief Physician and Medical Director, and his wife Dr Mrs Tulasi T. BAMS, MD (Ayur) Chief Medical Officer.

The hospital has an experienced team of physicians, Dr Arun, Dr Snowshiya, Dr Arunima and others. While Divya takes care of administration at the guidance of Shri Vishnu Sir, senior pharmacist Keerthana and a group of Panchakarma service providers take care of different kind of therapies. The hospital has a full pledged canteen and a shop that sells emergency items and local art-crafts at reasonable rates.

Our 14 days at the Ayurveda Hospital

We came here for an ayurvedic treatment for Sciatica Nerves problem in my right leg after undergoing unsuccessful treatment for many years. Also, my daughter had skin related and low immunity problems. While I have undergone rigorous massage, steam bath and other relevant therapies as a result I have recovered from severe pain in my right leg. Although Ayurvedic treatment takes a long time we can see the people going out happy and satisfied. This is when we thought it is worthwhile that we share our experience with our readers who have very little or no knowledge about Ayurvedic treatment. Hope this article reaches out to such people at large.
