The Ride Back Home

The Ride Back Home
The firsts of many began with a “Yes”
“I think I know you from school, I guess?”
The firsts of many began with her hand
On top of mine while I drive; her hand,
Felt like home.

I left home ...to a land, far away
The warmth of our calls between night and day
Felt like I knew her from a past life
The cold of the land seeped into our strife
Yet, that was home.

She left our home ...to another
Or did she? ...Smother
Our hopes and dreams we built our years on.
I fell into an abyss of a new dawn
When I went back home.

The sun rose on both sides of the globe
As I flew across time. A wider scope
on a wiser road. The scent of her neck
fades away, but wait, what the heck,
Am I home?

I am.
