Like, Share, Comment
I wrote a poem and voila, it got published
It made me very happy and contended
But my goal wasn’t yet accomplished
I forwarded the weblink to friends and colleagues over a hundred
Don’t forget to like, share, comment
To them was my humblest request
Some of the recipients thought I was a pesky pest
Nagging them to read my poem in print
Whoa, the comments began pouring in
Like the monsoon torrential rain
In words simple and plain
Their praises were umpteen on my poetic vein
My expended time and effort didn’t go in vain
The digital age has led us to become obsessed with comments
Indeed they speak louder about our achievements
Sweet words bring us ceaseless blissful moments
Like we are continually chewing on peppermints
My wife read the comments and then happily shouted
“Wow! Plentiful praises prove you’re a skilled wordsmith and poet”
I didn’t reveal it was me who had deliberately solicited
Until death that would remain a deadly secret
Then dawned the glorious women’s day
What a better way than entering the kitchen to toil away
To prepare a meal to surprise my wife in a grand way
I fought with knives, spoons and utensils until midday
Lunchtime arrived and I rushed to the dining table using expressway
Hooray, I singlehandedly cooked a meal, set and served
Coriander Rice, Shepherd’s Pie and Chicken Roast
I turned to my wife, smiled and said
“Don’t forget to like, share, comment”
Just a morsel of meat into her mouth
Opened the floodgates of comments
I was confused in which direction to run away – north or south
When she said “you are good for nothing except for penning poems”
