Bantwal, Apr 19: A woman from Manchi in the taluk tried to commit suicide by consuming poison. She also fed poison to her two small children, out of whom, one died. The mother and the other child are being treated in a hospital in Mangalore.

Vedavati (28), wife of Jagadish Poojary and resident of Kurunga Balajibail in Manchi village, and her child, Bhavit (2) are in the hospital. Bhavya (4) died due to poisoning.

Vedavati fed poison to her children, and then consumed it herself, when no one was at home on Monday April 18 afternoon. Her husband and in-laws had gone to attend their work at the time, it is gathered. The incident came to light when Vedavati’s father-in-law came home for lunch.

Reasons for this extreme step are not yet known. Policemen are investigating.

This is a shocking news. A young mother tried to commit suicide and to kill her children. One child died.
How desperate must she have been for a long time till she finally decided that suicide is the only way to escape despair and misery.
We do not know the reasons for her decision but the question should be asked did no one of her family, relatives, friends, neighbours realise what was going on there?
She and one of her children survived, policemen are investigating.
The circumstances under which she has been living must have traumatised her that she saw no other way as to commit suicide.
I hope a thorough investigation will be carried out and everything must be done to help her and the child.
This is a special week, Easter is coming, Easter is a new beginning, full of joy and hope.
Let us think of that mother and child that Easter will give them a new chance in life and a new beginning.

    Best regards
