Mangalore: Funeral of Drowned Boys – Police Book Parents

Mangalore, Apr 19: The police personnel of Mangalore Rural police station here have registered cases against the parents of two boys, who met unnatural deaths due to drowning. The parents have been booked under IPC section 176 relating to conducting of funeral of the children whose deaths were unnatural, without informing the policemen as per legal provisions.

The policemen said that the bodies of these two boys would be disinterred in the presence of the assistant commissioner on Tuesday April 19. Once the post mortem is completed, the bodies would be entrusted back to the families, they added.

Mohammed Shoukat (11), son of Abdul Latif from Valachchil in the taluk, and Mohammed Hanif (10), son of Hamza from Pandavarakallu, Badaga Kejakar village in Bantwal taluk, had drowned on Sunday April 17. Hanif had come to Valachchil to take part in the Uroos there. Both these boys ventured into River Netravati on Sunday evening. When one of the boys was drowning, the other one tried to save him. In the process, both the boys met watery grave. People who saw them drowning came running to save them, but it was too late.

The bodies were buried in Valachchil mosque at night the same day, without registering any cases with the policemen. On Monday, the policemen visited the spot after getting to know of the incident.
