Udupi, Aug 23: “Though the area of Udupi is small, the population is more. The district requires software companies to prevent people from going elsewhere for IT jobs,” said State Backward Class Commission president K Jayaprakash Hegde.
He was speaking in the discussion programme with journalists by the District Working Journalists' Association on Tuesday, August 23 on the occasion of the district completing 25 years of its formation.
“Tourism should grow further in the coastal region. The government should go to the people instead of making them run from pillar to post in government offices for their needs,” he said.
A virtual discussion was held with the first deputy commissioner Dr Kalpana Gopalan. Journalists who served the sector since 1997 were felicitated.
District information officer Manjunath B, District Working Journalists' Association president Rajesh Shetty, office bearers Nazeer Polya, Pramod Suvarna, Jayakara Suvarna and others were present.
Rahim Ujire welcomed and compered the programme. Umesh Marpalli proposed a vote of thanks.
