Panaji, Apr 13: The draft educational policy suggesting the way ahead for education in Goa from KG to PG (Post Graduation) has been submitted to the state government on Monday.

State Director of Higher Education Bhaskar Naik has formulated this policy, named Goa State Integrated Education Policy, 2011, which is the result of highly exhaustive exercise including consultation of all the stake holders.

The policy, which is a 30-pages-thick document, was submitted to the Education ministry today, which is likely to be kept for further suggestion and objections before it is finally notified.

Naik told PTI that the ground work for this policy began as early as in the year 2008 before it went through different stages like getting feedbacks from the sub committees.

The policy was even referred to all the 40 Members of Legislative Assembly. “Of the 40, Two MLAs including Leader of Opposition Manohar Parrikar and Congress MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco, reverted back with their suggestions,” Naik said.

He said that the financial implications of the policy were also taken into consideration before it was given a final shape.

Involving a consultative process, the policy was also circulated to various stakeholders like – Education Department, Goa Headmasters Association, Diocesan Society, Higher secondary Principal’s association, College Principal’s association and Teachers’ Union.

“We had solicited comments from them and majority of their suggestions are included in the policy,” Naik said.

Interestingly, Goa did not have Education Policy while it has Education Act which deals with the high schools and Goa University Act, regulating the higher education in the state.
