Mangaluru, Aug 15: It is learnt that the possibility of release of Praveen Kumar, who killed four of his relatives for the greed of gold, for good conduct on the occasion of India’s Independence Day is very slim.
The prison department of state had asked the Dakshina Kannada district police to give report on Praveen Kumar, whose name appeared in the list of convicts who were to be released because of their good conduct inside the prison on the occasion of Independence Day.
Accordingly, family members’ statement was sought by the district police. Family members of both Praveen and the victims of the heinous crime said that Praveen should not be released. If he is released the whole family will face life threat from him. In addition, it will be a wrong message to society. People representatives and officials of various positions also appealed not to release him.
Dakshina Kannada district SP Hrishikesh Sonawane said, “We have sent a report to the prison department that Praveen Kumar should not be released as his family members have serious objection to his release. So the chances of his release are very slim.”
Praveen killed his own aunt Appi Sherigarthi, her son Govinda, daughter Shakuntala and Deepika, daughter of Shakuntala in a barbaric manner in 1994 for the sake of gold.
Seetharama Gurupura, son of Appi Sherigarthi victim of the tragedy said that he has received information from ministry that Praveen Kumar will not be released and he is confident that Praveen will not come out of prison.
