Mangaluru, Aug 13: Dakshina Kannada Working Journalists Union (DKWJU), Mangaluru Press Club and Pathrika Bhavan Trust, honoured freedom fighter Matar Vittal Kini here on Saturday, August 13.
Speaking during the occasion, Matar Vittal Kini said, "My contribution to the freedom struggle is too little compared to other great leaders. Mine is a very small contribution to the nation."
Being a journalist, he also said that journalists should have their own responsibility toward the society.
He also spoke about the contributions of Bharatiya Jana Sangh leaders Syama Prasad Mukherjee and Deendayal Upadhyay.
Speaking on present politic situation, he said, “Understanding politics and serving the country is very essential. There might be differences of opinion among the political parties but the ultimate goal is to serve the country."
He also said that while criticizing a political party or a person, one should think deeply.
Journalists Shrinivas Indaje, Jithendra Kundeshwar, Jaganath Bala, Anand Shetty, Ramakrishna, Annu Mangaluru, PB Harish Rai, Ibrahim Adkasthala, and Yashodha teacher were present.
Journalist Bhaskar Rai compered the programme.
Prior to the stage function, the national flag was hoisted in the press club.
