Kuwait, Apr 10 (KUNA): A day before the enforcement of the controversial niqab (full- face veil) ban law, Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry called on nationals seeking to travel to France to abide by the law. In a press statement, the Consulates Administration at the Foreign Ministry reminded Kuwaitis that the ban will take hold Monday. According to the new law, French police will be authorized to stop veiled women in public and ask them to uncover for an identity check. Those who refuse could be arrested and subjected to a USD 216 fine.
Those found guilty of forcing women to conceal their faces, such as fathers, husbands, or religious leaders, will face severer sanctions, including more fines and a year in jail.
