Mangaluru, Aug 9: District health officer (DHO) Dr Kishore Kumar advised that children who are infected with viral fever and boils on body should remain at home till it is cured as it is contagious. This statement of DHO comes in the wake of increasing incidents of these diseases in children in the district this year.
Speaking at the press conference on Monday August 8, Dr Kumar said, “Children who have fever and boils on body should not attend school. Though there is no specific treatment for this condition, it gets cured within few days. So there is no need to panic.
“Till the end of July, 203 Dengue cases are reported in the district. Most cases are reported from Beltangady with 71 infections, while Neriya and Naravi also reported high number of cases.
“Till the end of July 93 Malaria cases are reported in DK. Highest cases (79) are reported from Mangaluru city. No case of malaria is reported from Sullia this year. It is malaria free since some years.
“Passengers at the international airport in the city are scanned for Monkeypox. If anyone is found to have symptoms, sample will be collected and sent to Bengaluru. As of now only Bengaluru has cases of Monkey pox in the state.
“Booster dose is available free of cost in all the health centres and government hospitals. Public has to make good use of this opportunity. Only 9.5% in the age group of 18 to 59 have received booster dose,” he said.
