Mangalore: ZP CEO Asks Banks to Accelerate Lending to Agriculture

Mangalore, Apr 7: Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat (ZP) chief executive officer (CEO), P Shivahsnkar, called upon the heads of banking sector from the district to set aside more funds for agricultural sector while drawing credit plan for 20111-12. He was addressing the banking development and review meeting organized here on Wednesday April 6. Venue of the meeting was Netravati Hall of the zilla panchayat.

Presenting the report of the banks, deputy general manager of Syndicate Bank, J S Shenoy, said that banks in the district had recorded a total turnover of Rs 24,844 crore as at the end of December quarter, 2010.  In his report, district manager of Lead Bank, Udayakumar Holla, said that the target set for the third quarter of the financial year was Rs 2,276 crore, and that the banks had achieved 61 percent of the target by reaching 1,653 crore.

ZP CEO, P Shivashankar, presided. Reserve Bank of India manager, M S Hassan, NABARD assistant general manager, Prasad Rao, as well as executives and officers of various banks, participated.
