Mangalore, Apr 6: The Central Arecanut and Cocoa Marketing and Processing Cooperative Ltd (Campco) has, sent to Karnataka government, a report prepared by a team of experts on cost of production of areca nut. This report has been sent by the state government to the union government with recommendation for approval. In this connection, a meeting is being held at New Delhi on Wednesday April 6.

The said report, along with a memorandum, had been handed over to the central government when a delegation led by the state Chief Minister had met the Prime Minister recently. The report has recommended support prices of Rs 108 for a kilogram of Chali areca nut, and Rs 145.73 for red areca nut. Campco said that high level officers of the central government are meeting today to take a decision on the report.

Campco, which has been in continuous contact with the union and state governments over  managing the crisis arising out of ban placed on gutkha sachets, hopes that the areca nut growers will have something to cheer about, out of the decision taken at the said meeting.
