Karkala, Apr 6: In an accident that took place on the night of Tuesday April 5 near Anekere here, a private bus plunged into roadside gorge. Four persons were injured in the incident.
Driver of the bus, Sunil, conductor, Manju, passengers, Subbanna and Radha, were injured. Radha is injured at her head, while the others escaped with minor injuries.
The bus was moving towards Karkala bus stand from Mangalore, when it suddenly swerved to left side of the road at around 8 pm, and jumped into a ten feet-deep gorge. If the bus had moved a little further, a house located there and its inmates would have faced danger and the passengers too would have suffered grave injuries. The impact of the accident would have been much more, but for the fact that only a few passengers had remained in the bus by the time it reached here, and that it deviated to the left instead of right, where a tank is located.
It is said that the bus driver suffered vertigo because of blood pressure at the point, as a result of which he could not control the vehicle. A number of people and vehicles gathered at the spot, creating traffic bottlenecks frequently.
