Mangalore, Apr 5: Yadav Shetty, district general secretary of Karnataka Pranta Raita Sangha, strongly criticized the preferential treatment being given by the government to the ultra rich.

He expressed resentment at the fact that a huge police contingent supported by machines comes and destroys huts built by landless people on government land. At the same time, he said, that the government is turning a blind eye towards the rich people, who have encroached upon several acres of government land.

He was speaking after inaugurating the ward level convention of landless people organized by Shantinagar unit of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) near Deepa Friends Club in Shaktinagar in the city on Monday April 4.

DYFI district president, Munir Katipalla, who was the chief guest, said that the country’s constitution has given the right of leading a dignified life to every citizen, but that the successive governments ruling the country have been throwing these rights to winds.

The meeting was held as a prelude to the rally of persons without house sites proposed to be taken to the office of the district deputy commissioner on April 26. Hundreds of people, mostly women, participated in the rogramme. The convention resolved to continue with its protest programmes till the government enforces rent control act and till house sites are allotted to landless people.

DYFI city unit president, B K Imtiaz, city secretary, Santosh Bajal, vice-president Navin Konchady, and various local leaders were present.
