Shimoga: Illegal Timber – FIR Filed Against DIG Murugan’s Wife

Shimoga, Apr 2: Relating to the stock of illegal timber found stored in the residence of former district superintendent of police and present deputy inspector general of police, Bangalore, Murugan, the forest department filed first information against Shubha Murugan, wife of Murugan, on Friday April 1, in a court here.

Section 62 of the Forest Act relating to seizure of illegal timber in the possession of a person, section 144 relating to illegal transportation, and section 165 which describes the quantity of fine, have been quoted in the first information report, it is learnt. The forest mobile vigilance squad said that the copy of the FIR was filed in the court of the junior magistrate (first class) here on Friday evening.

During the raid conducted under the leadership of Kumar, officer of the forest mobile vigilance squad, 216 teakwood blocks measuring 126.98 cubic feet worth about Rs 3,17,450 were said to have been found stored in the residential quarters of Murugan, the squad claims. The seized blocks were handed over to the circle inspector of Doddapete police station here for safekeeping.
