Mangalore, Apr 2: Karnataka Lokayukta, Justice N Santosh Hegde, lamented that the cancer of corruption has been spreading to all the wings of the society. Stressing that this situation should be reversed, he hoped that the students and the youth, who will be building the future of India, will bring total transformation in the corrupt system.

He was speaking after participating in a function held at Besant Women’s College in the city in the capacity of the chief guest.

“Rampant corruption and maladministration being witnessed in the country is forcing people to get disillusioned with the rulers. The students should take initiative to brood over the future of the country, and make a decision to reverse the condition,” he said, calling upon students to wake up to the situation.

Hegde expressed disappointment at the society’s practice of treating opulence earned out of genuine work and transactions, and illegally earned wealth, on equal footing. “The success of the person is being measured on the basis of wealth he has accumulated. Money brings recognition and respect, irrespective of how it is earned. There is a need to change this perspective. People should find solace only out of money earned through genuine means,” he advised.

Women’s National Education Society president, Kudpi Jagadish Shenoy, presided. Convener, B Mohan Nayak, welcomed. Principal, Dr Manjula K T, presented the annual report of the school. Students’ Union secretary, Nisha, moved the annual report of the union. Former president, Nivedita, delivered introductory address.  Joint secretary, Dhanya Shenoy, proposed the vote of thanks. Vice-president, Nafisa, presented the programme.
