Kundapur, Apr 1: In a serial accident that occurred on national highway 17 at Hemmady near here late night on Thursday March 13, over 15 persons suffered grave injuries.

At around 11.30 pm, a truck loaded with fish coming from Goa to Mangalore, hit a lorry what was stranded by the roadside after developing engine problems. A bus bearing Maharashtra registration number, carrying pilgrims from that state, hit the fish truck from behind thereafter.

In the accident, over 26 pilgrims in the bus were injured. Out of them, 15 suffered grave injuries. It is learnt that all the pilgrims belonged to Ahmed Nagar in Maharashtra. They were moving to Rameshwar after visiting Gokarn as part of their pilgrimage.

As the bus was badly mangled, the locals struggled a lot to bring out the passengers who had got trapped inside the bus. The injured persons had to be laid down by the roadside for over half an hour, before ambulances came to pick them up. The injured were later moved to a hospital.
