Shimoga, Mar 31: The Lokayukta police and forest department officials conducted a joint raid on the residential quarters of Murugan, who till recently was the superintendent of police of the district before his elevation and transfer as deputy inspector general of police, to Bangalore.
The raid was conducted on the evening of Wednesday March 30, on the basis of complaints that timber was stored in his residence in large quantities.
The officials found wooden pieces worth lacs of rupees during the raid. They are now verifying the documents relating to the stock. The raid continued till late in the night.
The Lokayukta office in Bangalore had received a complaint about the timber stock, and forest department officials in the town were asked to verify the genuineness of the complaint. Lokayukta deputy superintendent of police, Gangadharappa, said that the team of forest officials has been checking the veracity of documents relating to the timber found there.
