Beltangady, Mar 29: Lord Sooryanarayana temple in Naravi in the taluk, considered to be one of the most important temples dedicated to the Sun God in the state, has been renovated at a cost of three crore rupees. The Brahmakalashotsava of the temple will be performed between May 6 and 15 this year.
State Chief Minister, B S Yeddyurappa, will take part in the programmes on May 8. Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari, Dr D Veerendra Heggade, will preside. Religious meetings, discourses by scholars, cultural programmes, and community feast, will be arranged every day during this period, said temple managing trustee, Vasant Bhat Naravi, addressing a press conference on Monday March 28.
Sri Vishweshateertha Swamiji of Pejavar Mutt, ministers, Dr V S Acharya and Krishna J Palemar, MPs, Nalin Kumar Kateel and D V Sadanand Gowda, will also take part in the programmes.
The idol of the presiding deity of this temple, which is carved out of stone, and which is about 27 inches high, is very beautiful. It is said to be belonging to the 11th century, and is famed to be an excellent example of the rich south Indian tradition of stone sculpture, researchers have said.
B Niranjan Ajri, N Premkumar Hosmar, Gangadhar Mittamar, and various other dignitaries were present at the press conference.
