Mangalore, Mar 29: Deriding state Chief Minister (CM), B S Yeddyurappa for not being prepared to sacrifice his position in spite of his reported involvement with various scams, JDS MP from Mandya, N Chaluvaraya Swamy, derided him by commenting that it need not come as a surprise if the CM offers to run the administration even after being jailed. He was speaking to reporters at Circuit House here on Monday March 28.
“How much effective can an inquiry being conducted by an officer of the rank of superintendent of police in the Lokayukta be? It is anybody’s guess,” he remarked.
Swamy criticized the CM for not resigning even after the state Governor permitted registration of cases against him, and when the scams with which he was linked, were entrusted to the Lokayukta for investigation. “In the past, people in prime positions used to sacrifice their seats even when the allegations levelled were hearsay. Now, a separate law may be necessary to tackle this kind of people,” he felt. Noting that the voters of Karnataka coast have been providing solid support to the BJP, he felt that they have now to unseat it from power. He added, that with the inclusion of M G Hegde and others, the JDS has become stronger in the coastal areas.
He accused the Congress government at the centre of not being able to do anything in respect of SG spectrum scam, Commonwealth Games scam, etc. He expressed confidence that the people of the state, who are fed up with the corrupt administration of the Congress and the BJP, will now hand over power to the JDS.
Former minister, Basavaraj Horatti, too lamented about the degeneration of values in the BJP, comparing the present scenario with the past incident in which L K Advanit had resigned immediately after his name was linked to Hawala racket. While reiterating that his party does not aim at toppling a democratically elected government, he felt that the people will drown the government sooner or later.
JDS Dakshina Kannada district president, M B Sadashiv, leaders, Aziz Malar, M G Hegde, and Abubakker Natekal, were present.
