Mangalore, Mar 28: Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister, Krishna J Palemar, said that a meeting held on Saturday March 26 in Bangalore had taken some important decisions towards bringing changes to the rules of the Comprehensive Development Programme (CDP) applicable to the city, which had proved detrimental for the people wanting to build houses on smaller plots.
The meeting was presided over by the urban development minister, Suresh Kumar. After prolonged discussions on CDP rules, a number of clauses that had proved disadvantageous to the poor people have been modified. The decisions taken at the meeting will prove beneficial to the ordinary people, as they can now build houses on smaller sites too. New orders by incorporating these amendments will be issued within a week, the minister said.
Because of the strictures contained in the CDP, it was impossible to construct residential buildings in the city on plots that are three cents or smaller in size. The minister said that the sites up to three cents in size will be exempt from any kind of fines. “The fines to land up to six cents will be 7.5 percent, 12.5 percent up to nine cents, and 15 percents for sites above 15 cents,” he explained. He added, that it has also been decided to do away with fines in respect of landed properties that are inherited. However, they have to pay development fee. Some lacunae found in the roads and zone lists have been also addressed, he added.
The meeting was also attended by deputy speaker in the assembly, N Yogish Bhat, MLC, Capt Ganesh Karnik, city mayor, Pravin, Mangalore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) chairman, Dr Madhava Bhandary, city commissioner, Dr Vijayaprakash, and MUDA commissioner, Madhukar Gadkar, among others.
